The short answer
For Chat, Quick Edit, Refactor, and Agent, the selected Standard, Thinking, or Max mode determines the credit cost; Agent adds no separate multiplier. Explain uses a separately configured Explain path rather than the selected public mode, so do not infer its routing or charge from the mode selector. Autocomplete does not charge account credits and is tracked against its own monthly autocomplete cap. Check the plugin and Account for actual usage. Free provides Standard automatically after email verification under the current access policy, while paid plans add credits and capabilities by tier. Credits do not roll over.
Understand when credits are used
Chat, Quick Edit, and Refactor requests use the Standard, Thinking, or Max mode selected for that request. Completed Agent turns use the selected mode too, without an additional Agent multiplier. Agent can perform several turns during a run as it reasons, calls tools, and responds to results; the plugin updates the live turn-and-credit total as completed work accumulates.
Explain and autocomplete are different paths. Explain is routed through the server’s separately configured Explain model rather than the public mode selected in the dock; this reference does not claim an Explain credit amount that the current product source does not establish as a public fixed rule. Autocomplete is not charged against account credits. It is counted against a separate monthly autocomplete cap.
A request that fails before the AI service creates a response is refunded. If the provider already created a response, or an Agent turn completed before a later delivery failure, that completed work can remain billed. Retry preserves the original prompt, mode, and context for eligible failed Chat and Agent-start requests.
| Workflow | Selected public mode controls it? | Usage path |
|---|---|---|
| Chat, Quick Edit, Refactor | Yes | Account credits at the selected mode |
| Agent turn | Yes | Account credits at the selected mode; no Agent multiplier |
| Explain | No | Separate server-configured Explain path; verify actual usage in the product |
| Autocomplete | No | Separate monthly autocomplete cap; no account-credit charge |
Keep in mind: Do not repeatedly retry an unclear task. Check the surfaced error and improve the scope or connection first.
Check both the plugin and Account page
After checkout, access is granted only after the server confirms the subscription. If Account still says confirmation is pending, wait for the authoritative status rather than assuming the checkout redirect changed access.
| Surface | What it shows | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Plugin dock | Remaining balance and per-turn or Agent-run totals | Deciding whether to continue the current editor task |
| Account | Current access or paid plan, credits used versus limit, status, and renewal/access date | Checking authoritative account and billing state |
| Pricing | Current plan prices, credit allotments, modes, and feature access | Comparing plans before a purchase or change |
Compare plan capabilities without copying volatile prices
Every paid step also includes a larger credit allotment. Exact prices, allotments, limits, and promotional terms can change, so the Pricing page and checkout are the source of truth at purchase time.
| Plan | Reasoning and workflow access | Billing |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Standard and Explain after automatic approval following email verification | No charge; no automatic paid renewal |
| Starter | Adds Thinking and Refactor | Monthly or annual paid subscription |
| Pro | Adds Agent Mode | Monthly or annual paid subscription |
| Ultra | Adds Max; includes Agent Mode | Monthly or annual paid subscription |
Know when credits reset and what does not carry forward
Free access has a monthly allotment and is not billed. Paid subscriptions renew monthly or annually according to the checkout choice, while the Account page shows the relevant credits used, limit, and current period information. Unused credits do not roll over between periods, and unused credits are not refundable except where law requires otherwise.
- Check Account for the current used-versus-limit meter.
- Do not plan future work around unused credits carrying into the next period.
- Read checkout for the renewal amount, frequency, tax, and promotional roll-off.
- Use a deeper reasoning mode only when the task warrants its higher cost.
Change or cancel a paid subscription from billing settings
Choose Manage Billing on Account to open the Stripe customer portal. Upgrades take effect immediately with prorated billing for the remaining period. Downgrades take effect at the next billing period, so the current tier and credits continue until then.
Canceling stops future renewal. Paid access remains active through the current paid period, then the account returns to Free access. Cancellation does not refund the current period or unused credits except where required by law.
- 1
Open Account
Confirm the current tier, status, credit usage, and renewal or access-until date.
- 2
Choose Manage Billing
Use the customer portal for plan changes, payment details, or cancellation.
- 3
Return to Account
Verify the server-confirmed status and effective date rather than relying only on the portal redirect.
